Throned beneath the hood of the cosmic serpent, Vishnu and Lakshmi hold court over the running of the world. He keeps it turning; she keeps it kind. One without the other is only half a blessing: power that does not nourish, or plenty with nothing to guard it. Together they are a whole roof over a house.
