दुर्गा | Listen closely, child — the mosaic lion is roaring. You cannot hear it, but the tiles know. Every gold piece of his mane is set so the light catches like a sound. The goddess rides him, easy in her red-gold sari, her weapons already up, her eyes already fixed on what the world cannot quite see yet. The mosaic dome behind them is the whole sky, broken into pieces small enough for us to hold. He roars. She steadies. The pattern around them is the path the prayer takes — out from us, up to her, and back.
